Garage Door Opener Parts – What Does Each Part Do?

Garage door opener parts comprise the working system of the garage door. These parts help the garage door move up and down. In order for the garage door opener to work properly, the parts have to be installed correctly so that they can work together.

Motor and Gears – One of the parts of the garage door opener is the motor. This is the part that is used to provide power to the garage doors so that they can move to open and close. The motor operates when someone uses a remote, a keyless entry pad or a button installed on the wall of the garage.

The motor runs on electricity and instructs the gears to move in a clockwise motion to lift up the garage door. The gears are also use to move in the opposite direction to bring down the garage door.

Wall Controller – The movement of the garage door is operated by the wall controller. This controller is connected by being wired to the electricity in your home.

Lights – Lights, for the most part are installed with garage door openers. When the garage door opener is operating the doors up or down, the lights will come on automatically. After the doors have gone up or went down, the lights will remain on for a few minutes.

Limit switches – This is one of the garage door opener parts that works to stop the garage doors after they have went up or down.

Infrared sensors – These sensors are located by the jamb of the garage door. If you are trying to close the garage door, they will be able to sense if there is an obstruction that is preventing you from closing the door. The sensors force the garage door to stop and go the opposite way before it makes contact with the obstruction.

Rails and Carriages –This is one of the garage door opener parts that starts at the door opener and end at the garage door. The carriage is located on the rail. It goes back and forth on the rail. It works to help open and close the garage door.

Receivers – This is one of the garage door opener parts that connect with a system that is wireless. You can operate the opener using a remote control or an entry pad in which you don’t need a key.

Once you learn all of these garage door opener parts for your opener, you will know how each part works.
