Security Tips for Automated Garage Doors

Security Tips for Automated Garage Doors

The Do's and Don'ts...

A garage door is the largest moving object in most homes. The garage door opener system must be properly adjusted and maintained in order to function safely.

Safety Checklist for Garage Doors

1. Visual inspection of garage door
Look at the garage door springs, cables, rollers, pulleys, and other door hardware for signs of wear. If you suspect problems, have a qualified person make repairs or call us for advice at 800-349-8313.

2. Avoid a moving garage door and keep hands and fingers clear of garage door.
Do not stand, walk or run under a moving door. Hands and fingers must be kept clear from section joints, hinges, track, springs and other door parts.

3. Do not let children play with transmitters or remote controls ofgarage door
Garage door operators are not toys. Keep them out of reach of children. Push button wall controls must be mounted high enough to be out of the reach of children.

4. Only operate the garage door if you can see it
Keep the door in sight until it closes completely.

5. Test the reversing mechanism of garage door monthly
If an object obstructs the door as it is closing, the door should reverse. Make sure the garage door opener is equipped with such reversing features. If the door does not reverse, have it repaired or replaced by a person qualified to make repairs, you may also call us for advice at 800-849-3998.

6. Test the garage door balance monthly
With the door in the closed position and the operator disconnected, lift the door manually. It should lift smoothly and with little resistance and should remain open. If the garage door is out of balance, have the door system adjusted by a person qualified to make adjustments.

7. Test the force setting on the garage door monthly
Hold up the bottom of the door as it closes. If the door does not easily reverse, the force is excessive and needs adjustment by a qualified person.
